ADOPTION PROCESS

First, you must fill in the pre-adoption form. It isn't necessary for you to already know who is going to be your new family member.

Our objective is always going to be to provide the bes future possible for the animal involved. As it, vedama's team will review the form and, in case it's apt, we will contact you to pick a date for you to the shelter.

At the shelter, one everything has been cleared, you will be able to take the dog for 15 days to foster it. This process is trully necessary, for it helps us determine if the dog has been able to adapt to it's new enviroment in those 15 days.

If the foster period was succesfull, the adoption can be completed. Adoption is free, nevertheless, when it is finalized and made official, you will have to pay for the inicial veterinarian costs, wich include the passport and chip, aswell as the vaccine for rabbies and castration/neutering.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE ...
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT ADOPTING MEANS?
Expenses

It is very important to keep in mind that the animal must always be lokked after and cared for. It must be fed correctly and, most importantly, it must have access to veterinary care and check-ups, with the economic costs that this implies.

Needs

The animal must go out for a walk every day of the week. You also need to educate them. This will take time and a lot of patience. They will become another member of your family that you must treat as such.

Holidays

At the time you adopt you must know what will happen when you decide to make a getaway taking advantage of your holidays. You will have to take into account the new member of your family. Think that you'll probably have to modify your holiday options.

Purpose

An animal should not enter your life with a purpose, ever. Having a dog to be the guard of the house or just to keep you company when you go running should not be the reason you decide to adopt. It could be that he stops being a great runner or prefers to take long naps instead of watching the house.

Future

Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now on? Many of the dogs in our shelter have been abandoned due to changes in the life of their former guardians: they moved to a new house, had children, a new job, etc. If you would not abandon a child of yours for any of these circumstances, you do not abandon your pet.

Family

All family members must be informed of the adoption. If you live alone, think about who can take care of the animal when you can't. If you have children, keep in mind that, as much as they can promise it, they will never be 100% responsible for the animal. Think that this is no toy.
